Description
This is a Glacier Lily (erythronium grandiflorum), the harbinger of Spring in and around Glacier National Park. Also known as Avalanche Lily, it thrives in sub alpine meadows and is pollinated by bumble bees. Even with snows lingering from winter, their little inverted heads emerge as the first flower of Spring. The roots are edible and enjoyed by both humans and bears alike. Taken with a Fujifilm S7000 set on macro.
