Description
The Mariposa Lily is a perennial wildflower of the family Calochorta and is native to Western North America. in addition to white, it can also be found in yellow,lilac or a bluish color. It grows from bulbs which were used as a food source by both Native Americans and early Mormon settlers in Utah. The bulbs can be eaten raw as well as boiled. The name, Mariposa comes from the Spanish word for butterfly, which the petals are supposed to resemble.
