The peony is a member of the genus Paeonia, the family Paeonaceae and native to Asia, Southern Europe and Western North America. It is an herbaceous perennial plant. The petals are edible and may be added to salads, parboiled and sweetened, as well as used as a tea. Peonies were widely used as a subject in Chinese art.

Tracey Vivar is a freelance photographer originally from New York City.
