Description
Red Poll is a member of a group of small passerine birds in the Finch family. They are distinguished by a red patch on the foreheads and chest for the males. Females only have a red patch on the head. There are said to be up to 5 different species. in their genus, Acanthis. They are irregular winter visitors and scarce in most of Montana but quite common in Northern Alaska and Canada in summer.
