Description
The Poppy or Papaveraceae is an herbaceous, annual, biennial or short lived perennial plant. They reach full bloom inlate Spring or early Summer and are a great source of pollen for bees. The center pollen cluster of Papaver Orientale is dark blue. The seeds are rich in oil, carbs, calcium and protein and can be used as salad oil, margarine and spices for cakes. It is actually from the sap of the pod that opium is derived and it's derivatives, morphine, heroin and codeine. Poppy products also include paints, varnishes and cosmetics. They are often seen as symbols of peace, sleep, death and resurrection.
