Description
This Bear Grass (xerophyllum tenax) is prolific and iconic in Glacier National Park. In this particular image, the blossom has not yet opened into the well known big, fluffy configuration normally associated with Bear grass. It only blooms every 5 - 7 years and thrives from periodic burns. The leaves were used by the Native Americans who wove them into baskets. Taken with a Fujifilm S7000 set to macro.
