Description
Fireweed (Chamerion Angustiflorium) is also known as great willow herb and rosebay. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, native throughout the temperate northern hemisphere. It gets it's name due to it's propensity to colonize sites of forest fires, thrives is open areas with plenty of light. Native Americans ate the new, fresh shoots and some would use pieces of the raw stems placed upon wounds to draw out infection. In Alaska it is used to make candy and syrups. In Russia, the leaves are used to make tea. It is the floral emblem of the Yukon and is the County flower of London.
